ABOUT US
EBLI is a community -based non-profit organization empowering young mothers and vulnerable girls aged 14 – 24 in Tanzania. Each year, we train over 100 young mothers, particularly those who have dropped out of school and seek to rebuild their lives free from coercion, discrimination, and gender- based Violence.
Through integrated programs in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness and climate change, sexual and reproductive health and Rights and Gender Based violence, and life skills development, we equip participants with practical, market – relevant skills that increase income opportunities, strengthen decision – making capacity, and promote long-term resilience.

Economic Empowerment
Making a difference in the lives of young people, which helps lift up the community.
EBLI gives young people who drop out of school a second chance in life to reduce number of joblessness and dependency people.
Each year, 100 young people, with a special preference for young mothers, are sponsored to complete a 4-month computer literacy training.
We provide business skills training to equip young people with the knowledge and tools for how to apply for and attain employment, and how to choose, plan, and run a successful enterprise, be it individually or as a group.
Saving and loaning groups, leadership workshops, and business refresher courses are also provided to further enable economic emancipation.
EBLI sponsors 25 – 50 young people per year to complete the equivalent of 4 years of secondary education in just 2 years, in a program known locally as “QT” or Qualifying Test, for a chance to attain their Form IV certificate.

Rose: Restaurant entrepreneur
Rose started her own small restaurant near St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) in Mwanza, now she earns Today, Rose earns USD 177 per month.

Her passion, business training and strategic location enabled her restaurant to flourish.
Today, Rose earns USD 177 per month.
Thereafter, Rose joined our saving and loaning group, known as Hisa, where she is able to set aside and borrow money to further expand her already booming restaurant business.

Rozalia used this training to gain employment with BRAC Tanzania Finance Limited, working in the field of micro-finance.

Started her own business selling clothing. These two forms of work have enabled Rozalia to earn USD 294 per month (nearly 7x that of the average Tanzanian).
We asked Rose, “What obstacles are preventing you from achieving your goals?” Her answer: “There are none.” Now that’s self-confidence.

Suzan: Restaurant & Glocery owner.
Suzan began running a small restaurant serving schools, events, and seminars around her campus soon after finishing our training.

Suzan came back to EBLI in 2014 and re-joined the business training, learning all about entrepreneurship. Since that time, her business(es) have really taken off.
She began by cooking food with her mother and serving it to small sit-in restaurant and meal preparation for schools and various seminars and events.
From there, Suzan added a grocery stand outside the family home, selling fruits, vegetables and various homemade snacks and treats. Then, constructed a salon to offer hair-care services to the local community.
At only age 22, she is quite the accomplished young woman, earning USD 114 per month (nearly 3x the average Tanzanian).

Leveraging the computer certificate that she received from EBLI in partnership with Upendo Daima, Mary was able to get a job in customer care with Vodacom – Tanzania’s leading cellular network company.
